Oliver Twist

Written by Charles Dickens
Adapted by Anya Reiss
Directed for Actonians by Sue Anstey

Synopsis

This play (not musical) follows the original story of Victorian London’s most famous orphan. It was written by Charles Dickens and has been adapted for stage by Anya Reiss. The play was originally staged outdoors at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and it has been written to allow doubling up of characters.

Anya Reiss' impressive adaptation fillets the story very effectively, condensing swathes of plot into neat scenes that propel Oliver's adventures forward... an action-packed, thrilling show.' WhatsOnStage ★★★★

Juniors Summer 2022

20 July 2022 7:00 pm at Iron Acton Parish Hall

This was performed for an invited audience and a voluntary collection on the evening raised £255 for ‘From Bristol with love for Ukraine’

Synopsis

The little-known story of how William Shakespeare's wife, Anne Hathaway, not only saved the nation from invasion but also her husband's head from the axeman. This play is notionally set in the year 1594.  Any degree of historical accuracy is purely accidental.
From Lazy Bee Scripts' website.

This cleverly written play is at times reminiscent of Monty Python, Black Adder and/or Upstart Crows but is entirely original.

Spring 2022

Synopsis

This comedy is set in the home of Anita and Clive Debanks who have been married for 28 years and the passage of the play covers a six-week period leading up to Clive's 50th birthday.

Clive endeavours to recapture his youth with a foray into a "Lonely Hearts column".

Meanwhile, his wife, Anita, enters the loveless couple into a competition for the perfect married couple, to win a Caribbean cruise, without telling her husband.

The grand finale is reached following several complications, misunderstandings and coincidences which form an integral part of this farce.
