Short Biography:

Dodie Smith was born in Withefield, Lancashire. She studied Dramatic Art in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She got fascinated by theatre, as actress, director or paywright.

Although only her children's books have made her a famous writer, she also wrote several novels for adults and some autobiographical works.

In 1912 The Hundred and One Dalmatians was first published, illustrated by Janet and Anne Grahame-Johnstone, Dodie Smith's friends.
